‘One Pound Capitalism, and a Pinch of Democracy’ is part of the Discomfort Foods series that uses the medium of ingredients, measurements and textures to communicate the extreme consequences of the climate emergency, war and occupation, and neoliberal policies that are wrecking the planet and the daily lives and livelihoods of many around the world. In the process, the series attempts to create new food memories and associations.
The type and quantity of each ingredient used and the presentation of a recipe is determined by choosing key statistics and points that are embedded in the story being conveyed and converting that to a measurement or meal/package design. Indeed, there may be foods that taste somewhat strange with an ingredient or two out of whack, or are just outright inedible. But that’s intentional.
